Firstlook Festival 2017 with Ivar

For the first time ever, I went to the Firstlook Festival in the Netherlands. This festival is an annual event, in which players from the Benelux get to see and play upcoming games. There is also the opportunity to see some cosplayers, get merchandise and take some pictures with exhibitions. And of course we hung around the Ubisoft stand for quite some time.

When we arrived with the MyCreed team, we searched out the Ubisoft stand of course, because that’s why we’re here: Assassin’s Creed Origins. Like expected, we first went the wrong way, so after ten minutes we finally arrived at the Ubisoft stand. It was crowded with people, the queues were exceptionally long, it took about 2/3 hours to be able to play the game. Luckily for us, we had found a bit of a loophole, but I’ll come back to that in a minute.

The Ubisoft stand featured a life size statue of Bayek, which was incredibly detailed! There was also the option to sit on an Egyptian throne, which I did. As you can see in the picture, I was not alone. Erin, my colleague from MyCreed Nederland, was also present in her cosplay. Alongside the throne and the statue there were lots of props and dozens of screens where Origins was able to be played on.

While we were looking at the stand, I was asked by one of the Ubisoft employees to do a photoshoot as a promotion for the Dutch Assassin’s Creed Facebook. This meant leaving my team behind for half an hour, but it was something I couldn’t resist doing! Sadly, she couldn’t bring us to the front of the row, as even employees had to wait in line to be able to play the game. Luckily there were some other cosplayers to take pics with, so of course I took advantage of that!

Well, back to the game itself. While the queue at the Ubisoft stand was huge, there were also two screens at the XBOX stand where the game was playable on the Xbox One X. And this queue was only about ten to twenty minutes long, mainly because there were a lot of other games to be played there as well.

So there it was, the game we came for, the game we were so hyped about. And I can say one thing, I have not been disappointed at all! The frame-rate is a steady 30+ frames per second, 4K quality without stuttering or pop up and the colors and models where beautifully crafted. This is the game I wanted to play for so long, and now it’s almost here! I don’t want to give away any spoilers, so I will refrain from doing that here. I can talk about the combat system however, and it works like a charm. It is intuitive, quick and has a high learning curve. The combat made me think to that of Prince of Persia or God of War, while staying close to the original Assassin’s Creed.

All in all, the Firstlook Festival was a success for us at MyCreed, as we could play and test Assassin’s Creed Origins ourselves. This game is beautifully crafted, it is quite hard, it is raw (in terms of the kill executions and battles) and this is the Assassin’s Creed game we as players have asked for. And Ubisoft listened and delivered with Assassin’s Creed Origins.
