Blog: Cooperative multiplayer with Ivar

United we stand. For now Unity is the only Assassin’s Creed game which implements both freeroam as multiplayer missions. Ditching the old Assassin’s Creed multiplayer game modes, unity does a great job by giving four players the chance to create their own playstyle and gives them multiple missions to buy more and better items. It almost looks like a full on cooperative role playing game. Then came Syndicate which lacked cooperative or even multiplayer altogether.

This raises the question: Do we need cooperative multiplayer in the Assassin’s Creed games?
In my own opinion we do. It is great to explore the game world together with your friends and having role playing game elements will make it even better. For example: Explore ancient tombs, Assassinate a Templar master and his council, steal the plans for a the ultimate weapon, the options are almost unlimited.

Unity got a lot of hate because of the bugs, story and bad online servers, but currently the servers are great. Making your character better and better, experiencing with new playstyles and help others achieve better and stronger gear is truly rewarding. I have to admit, Unity did a great job on having a fun and great multiplayer experience. In my opinion the best one of any Assassin’s Creed game.
I myself really hoped for cooperative multiplayer in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. This game had all of the great gameplay options and cooperative multiplayer would have given the players so many more opportunities.

But what about a story, a character, or even a game world? Well Assassin’s Creed isn’t the only franchise of Ubisoft. Games like The Crew, with one of the largest open world maps in gaming so far, and Watch_Dogs, which was a combination of Assassin’s Creed and GTA, prove that Ubisoft has enough experience to bring cooperative multiplayer back to the world of Assassin’s Creed. Bring back hunting, a new and fast open world with numerous cities and possibly give the players a character creator and together with their friends, countless of adventures await the players.

Does Assassin’s Creed need cooperative multiplayer or even multiplayer altogether? No, the franchise is fine without any of the two, but it would greatly improve the replay ability of the game. I myself hope we will see the next installment of the franchise with cooperative multiplayer, so I can explore the world and the missions within it with my friends.
