Blog: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate Part I – Impression of Ivar
Just as every year, I pre-ordered the XBOX edition of the new Assassin’s Creed, with the figurine. This year the edition I bought wasn’t even the most expensive one, but at the very least I got a nice figurine of Jacob. When I started the game, I was amazed by the graphics. A big plus was that the story got off with a great start and reminded me of Assassin’s Creed 4 in gameplay. However the gameplay was too easy for me and I was bummed that there was no difficulty setting or slider to increase the difficulty.
After arriving in London, it quickly became obvious that Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was extraordinary in graphics, layout and really captures the environment of the late 19 century. Also there are loads of missions and the map is quite large. There definitely is a reason there is a train driving through the entire city. Which I have mixed feelings about is the darkness of the game. It feels Victorian, which it of course should, but it makes the entire world so similar the game actually become stall… Which for me is a first in an Assassin’s Creed game.
After a few missions I finally found out how to switch in free roam between the characters due to the internet. With a new patch this issue is fixed as there was first no indication how to switch characters. I prefer to play with Jacob and using the rope launcher is in one word: AWESOME. It makes traversing through the city way quicker. However the thrill of escaping guards from the other games is entirely gone. No longer there are guards guarding the rooftops and even normal hostiles aren’t keen to follow you high above the streets. However the chases with the horse carriages are really fun and the different fighting options are also great.
My first impression was quite positive, but while everyone loved the game for its new gameplay and setting, I actually miss the world of swords, bows and hunting. That said, I would love to see more of this era, but only if there would be enough countryside, forests and multiple cities.
