Assassin’s Creed: The facts about the new movie

Assassin’s Creed is the new upcoming movie, based on the game franchise of the same name. The movie is set for release on 21st of December 2016. Michael Frassbender, known for his roles in Prometheus (Alien), 300, 12 years a slave and the award winning series Band of Brothers, will play Callum Lynch, a convicted criminal who is then contacted by Abstergo Industries while in incarceration.

Working for Abstergo Industries, he discovers that he is a descendant of Aguilar de Nerha, a Spanish Assassin from the 15th century. Apparently his ancestor played a very important role, as Abstergo want Callum Lynch to relive the memories of his ancestor and through Callum find an item.

After discovering the true nature of Abstergo, Callum Lynch uses his new found knowledge and skills to take on the Templars in the present day…

The movie is directed by Justin Kurzel and produced by Frank Marshall and the newly founded Ubisoft Motion Pictures. 20th Century Fox will be the distributor of the movie. The movie will also feature a 3D release. Filming began on August 31st 2015. Filming took place in London, Spain and Malta.

Michael Fassbender had never played an Assassin’s Creed game when he was cast for the role, however he loved the story and read the books. He said that he liked the idea and compared the series to the Matrix, a movie franchise known for its originality and loads of awards.

Written by Michael Lesslie, Scott Frank, Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, the script will focus on historic facts and lots of epic action scenes. The writers are known for the scripts of Minority Report, The Wolverine and even Exodus: Gods and Kings.
The story will be set within the same universe as the games, but will not be based on any of them. The movie might have a separate story, we can still expect to hear familiar names like Ezio or Connor, but only as a mention.

On the 15th of January 2016 the shooting of the movie was finished. Currently the movie is being created within the studios and wrapped up for release. Ubisoft already confirmed a second Assassin’s Creed movie, but it is yet unknown if it will be a sequel of the first movie.

Assassin’s Creed will be in theaters on the 21st of December 2016 in he USA. Between the 21st and 30th of December 2016 the movie will be released in most European countries. From 5th of January 2017 the movie should be in theaters across the globe.
